  I've written my fair share of humorous things that end up a little too "racist" to be universally funny. More importantly the ones that fall into thatcategory more times than not end up being rather obvious and unoriginal.

I've stated before that the problem with race-related jokes is they are often times just not that creative, and thereby end up being (or coming across) racist. Once you add in a bit of mistruth and a dash of hate backed mythology and it begins to walk and talk like a duck.

I see where the cartoon depicted the police officers shooting the chimp with one officer saying "I'll guess they'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill" could NOT be racist, and I see where it could, more importantly I can see where it could make you laugh... if only in a gasping groan as you try to stammer out the the phrase "that's awful!".

But if you were the one to write that, and you MEANT it to convey that the political process in which the stimulus bill was being written and passed could've been done better or as well by a bunch of chimps... fine... and if Bush was still in office that's all it would have conveyed... especially since he kind of resembles the recently deceased primate in question; the problem with doing it now however is that even a person with the most closeted of upbringing has at least heard in passing a racist statement, from days will like to think are far behind us, refering to persons of greater melanin content as belonging to a level lower or the Darwinian chart (usually by someone who does not comprehend and likes to dismiss the evolutionary process in question... I'll try to post my stand up bit about that sometime).

If noone saw that with this cartoon, no editor, no artist, no staffer; noone voiced that opinion or concern at its possible interpretation than it sounds like a bunch of white people trying to either NOT sound racist by seeing that in it or they were just hushing it to the presses to try and sell some copy.

If the former is true than I offer this advice to the paper's editorial staff: "Grow some fucking balls." If the latter is true, well congrats on having balls.. and I look forward to your expose on how there are no pictures of President Obama taken at night... because that's when his tail comes out.
